Samuel has taught Israel not to look to human appointed judges. His mother spoke of the Lord being the true hope of Israel, and of the king he will send. But the elders of Israel, along with the people, have learnt from neither of them. So although Samuel tells them of all a human king would take from them, still they demand one now – They will not wait upon God for the one he will send! So the Lord gives them what their heart desires, but they will live to regret it.
