Sermon Summary - Sunday 9 July 2023

Main Bible passage:  1 Samuel 9:1-14

The citizens of Israel have insisted on having a king like other nations. But their feelings will mislead them. Their folly will centre on a family from the strong but stubborn tribe of Benjamin. A mighty man from the tribe, Kish, has a fine son he asked for, Saul. They are close and protective. They are men you’d want alongside you in a battle. Yet, you wouldn’t want them in charge, especially given their weak understanding of God. True hope can’t be built on frail human beings; it must be built on the Lord.
