Saul has disobeyed the Lord and been rejected as king. However, he doesn’t repent. Instead, he doubles down in protecting his position and sees David as a rival. His son Jonathan briefly convinces him to change his mind but Saul soon resorts to type, pressuring other to harm David, acting like poison at the heart of the palace. However, David’s wife helps him to escape. If we despise opportunities to repent, we will find that sin digs deeper within us.
