Sermon Summary - Sunday 30 October 2022

Main Bible passage:  Mark 15:6-15

Pilate tries to free Jesus by getting the crowd to ask for his release. But it goes horribly wrong and Pilate has Jesus killed to save himself trouble. How does it go wrong? Jerusalem’s leaders stir the crowd to turn against Jesus and chant for his crucifixion. They do so out of envy but sitting beneath that is a fundamental hatred for God which Jesus has previously described in a parable. It’s a problematic through humanity: we wish God were dead. But God patiently calls us back, even letting his son die so that we might be saved.
