Jesus is hungry.
He finds an empty fig tree.
He knows it’s not time for figs.
Yet he tells the tree to die.
Jesus goes to Jerusalem’s temple.
He stops the traders.
He overturns their tables.
No-one needs this stuff, he says.
No-one can pray here!
The temple is corrupt.
It’s the fault of its leaders.
They hear him and hate him.
Jesus leaves Jerusalem.
The next day the fig tree is dead.
Jesus’ friends are shocked.
But he did this to show the future.
God is going to kill the empty temple.
His friends do not like the thought.
But they must pray about it.
And they must trust God.
Jesus will judge this world.
All that is sinful will be lost.
But we do not have to be lost.
We just need to have faith in him.
