The Prophet Moses and the Bronze Serpent
Leytonstone Library, 7.15pm, Friday 4th October 2024
Speaker: E. M. Hishem
Hishem grew up in North Africa, has lived in Britain and, today, is the minister of a Christian church in France. He holds a doctorate in religious sciences. He loves to preach the great, true stories of the Bible to Christians. However, he also loves to tell them in ways which those who come from other faiths, or none, can appreciate. That’s because Hishem himself, when he was a young man, came to personal faith in Jesus Christ.
Here is a little of what he says about that time: “I was very surprised that the Bible included the Tawrat (torah), Zabur (psalms), the writings of the prophets, and the Injil. I thought that Christians had only the Injil (New Testament). Another thing astonished me: The Bible says that a person can know God personally through Jesus Christ. It was completely new to me. I could have a personal relationship with God! Me, a sinner! The God of the Bible in whom I have all my confidence now is a holy God, just, trustworthy, faithful, honest and kind. I believe in a God who is love; an accessible God that a person can know personally. He revealed Himself in the Bible and through the Lord Jesus Christ.”
In October, Hishem will be speaking about the Bible at Leytonstone Library and any who would like to listen are welcome to come along. His topic will be from an exciting part of the Bible which speaks about the prophet Moses when he was leading his people through the wilderness. The people had received many good things from God but reacted with wicked ingratitude and rebellion. The result was a crisis in the camp which could have destroyed them. But then God showed them mercy and gave them a way to escape what their own sins had caused. It’s a powerful story which has lessons for us today. Why not come to the talk to find out how? We’re even including a time for questions and discussion if there is anything you would like to ask Hishem.
All are welcome and the evening will include a time for questions, when you can ask Hishem about his talk and/or his faith. The talk will not be accessible online.
Jesus once said:
“Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going.” Thomas said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?” Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No-one comes to the Father except through me.”
