Sermon Summary - Sunday 1 September 2024

Main Bible passage:  1 Samuel 24:8-15

Though Saul became an easy target for David, he didn’t strike the king but let him go free. But now David faces a choice. Does he leave it there, with Saul ignorant of what has happened? Or does he call Saul out and try to make peace with him? The latter seems like folly but David takes that course because of his strong trust in the Lord as final judge. Jesus shows the full version of this attitude in his life and commands it of his people. Christians are free not to pursue vengeance against those who harm us, but can imitate God’s mercy.

Brief notes on this passage are also sent out in daily emails during the week after the sermon. An archive of these may be read on a separate website: press here to go to the first one from this passage or press here to read the introduction to the notes, which are entitled “Think of the King“.
