Sermon Summary - Sunday 30 June 2024

Main Bible passage:  1 Samuel 21:10-22:5

Fleeing murderous Saul, David struggles to find anywhere safe to go. His first thought is to hide amongst his enemies. But that goes badly wrong and he has to extract himself in an embarrassing way. Next he hides in a cave network but ends up with a motley group of miserable people who attach themselves to him, whilst his family has to be sent to another land. Why’s God make it all so difficult for his anointed king? So that king wouldn’t build his hopes on this world but upon the Lord. David’s homelessness causes him to long for the Lord’s home, which is what all believers should desire.

Brief notes on this passage are also sent out in daily emails during the week after the sermon. An archive of these may be read on a separate website: press here to go to the first one from this passage or press here to read the introduction to the notes, which are entitled “Think of the King“.
