Saul’s foolish, proud leadership has left his army famished with the result they devour captured animals like a pack of wild dogs. Rather than admitting his mistake, however, Saul tries to put things right his way. This goes badly wrong so he tries to pin the blame on the soldiers by casting lots to see who sinned. But that only makes things far worse and a rebellion occurs when his soldiers close ranks to protect Jonathan. Empty leadership can do so much harm. But Christians have Jesus to lead them, the finest of all kings.
