Saul is his chaos and so are his people. Despite a moment of victory presenting itself, by the Lord’s grace, he cannot see the right thing to do and issues commands that either cause havoc or end up getting quickly cancelled. His son, the greatest warrior in Israel, cannot trust him. What has led to this? Saul’s sin and the sin of the people. Sin is destructive. Yet Jonathan stands apart in the midst of Israel as a beacon of hope pointing towards the Lord as saviour. We need that hope.
