Sermon Summary - Sunday 20 August 2023

Main Bible passage:  1 Samuel 11:1-15

The Israelites have proclaimed Saul as they king they want but is he right for the job? During a probationary period, he needs to be tested and the Lord provides that through a foreign king named “Serpent”. This arrogant usurper besieges a remote Israelite city expecting no help to be given to them. But a message is sent to Saul and he responds boldly, full of God’s Spirit. So a wonderful salvation takes place but Saul won’t claim the honour: it’s all thanks to the Lord. True leaders are humble, serve others in love and act in faith. The finest example of this is Jesus Christ, God’s ultimate king, who when tested, responded perfectly.
