Jesus has come home but it’s not so welcoming any more. Opposition tests him, demanding evidence that God is with him. Israel has always been like this, wanting God to prove himself before they’ll trust him. Jesus will have none of it. His enemies have hard hearts and his disciples must not be misled by their outward concern for God. Yet Jesus’ distracted friends struggle to heed the warning. So he calls them again to listen more carefully to him if they are to be safe from the pressure of the world and be ready for trouble.
