Sermon Summary - Sunday 11 October 2020

Main Bible passage:  Mark 1:1-13

Mark’s gospel is the announcement of the coming of God’s king: Jesus, a king whom none can ignore. He begins with a dramatic opening as God sends a prophesied herald to start the ball rolling. John comes to warn the Israelites that they are as lost in sin as their forefathers and need a new beginning, which he symbolises through baptism in the River Jordan. This makes the thought of the arriving Lord as terrifying. But when Jesus comes, he makes plain he is here not to judge but to save.
